Baker & Taylor Launches TextStream Digital Print Services

Baker & Taylor, in collaboration with the world’s largest commercial printer R. R. Donnelley, has developed a rich Print-On-Demand program, marketed under the trade name TextStream. TextStream features a new digital print center inside Baker & Taylor’s largest warehouse, located in Momence, IL. This academic warehouse will be supported by two other digital printing facilities in Pennsylvania and New York. TextStream’s production offers a wide variety of product options and formats, including hardcover and spiral binding, dust jacket and 4-color inside pages.

TextStream’s launch gives Baker & Taylor publishers worldwide a variety of options to manage their inventories with print on demand and short run digital replenishment services via one ordering system saving them time and money while increasing their customer reach.

For libraries, TextStream allows us to provide our customers with a much wider title selection and higher fill rate on backlist and front list titles, empowering libraries to confidently supply patrons with the titles they want, knowing that they’ll get the title delivered to them (whether the title is a large trade publication, University Press or small press).

As the technology evolves, more and more academic publishers and University Presses are opting to offer their front list monograph titles through print-to-order services to eliminate the costs and risks of warehousing, inventory financing, returns processing and inventory obsolescence.
